Doo Wop

Note

One of the most distinctive of all American pop idioms, Doo-Wop grew out of New York and Philadelphia's a capella groups of the 1940s and 1950s. Using vocal fills like "doo-wop" and "sh-boom" instead of instruments, they created a timeless vocal style that gave birth to commercially successful groups like The Earls and The Capris (from New York) and The Penguins (from Los Angeles).
